Mercedes Cortez is the daughter of Colonel Cortez and one of the first people Tommy Vercetti meets in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. She does not give missions herself, but she turns up in several storylines.
Who she is
Mercedes soon tires of the party on her father’s yacht and would rather be out in town. GameSpot’s guide explains that the Colonel asks Tommy to keep an eye on her, which makes her part of his dealings with Cortez from the start.
Role in the story
Tommy meets her in The Party, the first mission from Ken Rosenberg. IGN’s guide describes how a cutscene on the yacht introduces the city’s key players, and Mercedes shows Tommy around the boat. When she gets bored she asks to go into town, and the mission ends once you have driven her safely to the club. GameSpot names the destination as the Pole Position Club.
She comes back later in two side stories. In the Love Fist mission Love Juice, Tommy picks her up from her apartment and has 90 seconds to bring her to the band’s recording studio. She also appears in the InterGlobal Films mission Recruitment Drive, where Tommy collects her together with Candy Suxxx and drives them both to the studio run by Steve Scott.
