Rockstar used its own Newswire on September 1, 2026 to announce NoPixel V, the newest version of the best known GTA 5 roleplay server. Its closed beta started on September 8, and invited players get in through the Rockstar Games Launcher.
That last part is the big news. NoPixel used to be something you joined through third party mod tools; now Rockstar is putting its name on it and running access through its own launcher.
What is GTA roleplay?
GTA RP turns GTA 5 into a community-run version of Los Santos. Every player makes a character and stays in character: some live honest lives, some chase their next score, and players run the police too. What’s new in NoPixel V
Rockstar lists these changes:
- Reworked character creation, with more ways to build a character that fits their backstory
- New places in the city, including the brand new Pixel Hotel & Casino and a six block revamp of Cypress Flats
- Refreshed visuals
- New jobs on both sides of the law
- Smarter pedestrians that react more to what happens around them
Some well known streamers are bringing back fan favourite characters, and new ones are starting their own stories. Rockstar also says more is coming, including a new PC in-game overlay, events and wider access to the server.
Twitch Drops: free GTA Online rewards
From September 8 to 30, watching GTA roleplay streamers play NoPixel V on Twitch earned Twitch Drops for GTA Online: up to GTA$1,500,000 and the Burger Shot Tracksuit. That window has now closed.
Our take
This is the clearest sign yet that Rockstar sees roleplay as part of GTA’s future, not a side scene. Bringing NoPixel onto the official launcher makes it easier and safer to reach than a mod download, and it gives the RP community a level of support it has never had.
What we would like to know next is how wide access will get. Right now it is invite only, so for most people NoPixel V is something to watch rather than play. We’ll update this post when Rockstar or NoPixel share how and when more players can join.
