The GTA 6 map is about twice the size of GTA 5’s, according to Rockstar. VGC reported the comparison as official, and Rockstar has not given an exact figure in square miles or kilometres. The whole map is the state of Leonida, with Vice City as its main city.

What Rockstar has said about size

Two comparisons have come from Rockstar staff so far:

  • Twice the size of GTA 5. VGC’s report carried the headline that the GTA 6 map is officially twice as large as GTA 5’s.
  • Three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2. Kotaku reported in August 2026 that Rockstar’s Rob Nelson gave YouTuber TGG these figures during a preview at Rockstar North: the map is twice the size of GTA 5’s and three times the size of Red Dead 2’s.

Nelson also told TGG, according to Kotaku, that Vice City on its own is twice the size of Los Santos, the city in GTA 5. Kotaku’s headline calls it Rockstar’s biggest city yet.

These are comparisons, not measurements. Rockstar has not said whether they count the sea, the islands or only the land you can walk on.

How GTA 5’s map compares

GTA 5 is set in Los Santos, Rockstar’s parody of Los Angeles, with the open countryside of Blaine County to the north, as Kotaku’s review described it. GTA 6 swaps that one city plus countryside for a whole state with several distinct regions.

TechRadar also reported that a Rockstar co-head said GTA 6’s roads are narrower than GTA 5’s, which meant the studio had to add even more buildings around them. So a bigger map should also be a denser one.

The six regions of Leonida

Rockstar’s Only in Leonida page gives six regions a heading each. Our map pages cover what Rockstar has said about each one:

Inside Vice City, Rockstar names Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and VC Port. Smaller places named elsewhere include Leonida Penitentiary, Lake Leonida, Watson Bay and Gambit Bay.

Weather across a bigger map

VGC’s report on the map size also said the game features hurricanes and tropical storms. Rockstar has not said how often they happen or whether they change the map.

Is there a full official map?

No. Rockstar has not published a full map of Leonida, and the game is not out until November 19, 2026. Any full map you see online before then is not official. We will add the real layout once the game is in players’ hands.

What we don’t know yet

  • The exact size in square miles or kilometres.
  • Whether the “twice GTA 5” figure includes water and underwater areas.
  • How the regions connect, and whether all of them are open from the start.
  • Whether Liberty City, which Lucia’s profile mentions, is anywhere you can visit.
