Before launch, the ways to earn money that have been shown are robberies, from gas station and jewellery store holdups up to bank jobs with Raul Bautista, and stealing cars that fences have asked for. How much each pays, and which is fastest, isn’t known yet. We’ll test the methods ourselves after November 19, 2026 and update this page with real numbers.
Not announced Rockstar hasn’t published payouts, prices or a list of businesses you can own. Nothing on this page is a dollar figure, because none has been given.
Money matters more in GTA 6
Edge’s preview, published free on GamesRadar, says there is some natural gating between story missions: sometimes Jason and Lucia need to raise cash before they can take the next job. Edge’s examples are holding up a gas station or jewellery store, or stealing a particular car a fence wants, and it calls these “just a handful” of the ways to earn.
Analysis So in GTA 6, side money isn’t only for buying cars and clothes. It can be what lets the story move on. Keep some cash in hand rather than spending everything straight after a payday.
1. Steal cars to order for fences
This is the money method that has been described in the most detail.
- Open WAINK. Edge says the app on Jason and Lucia’s phones lists the car models fences want, with each car’s security and tracking.
- Pick a target you can handle. Edge says cars with more security are harder to steal. Kotaku reports that some parked cars can’t be taken until later in the story, once you have the right tools: a Slim Jim works on older cars, and some need a key cloner to start.
- Lose the police on the way. Edge says higher-end models ping their location to the police, so you have to lose the tail before the drop-off. The fence usually has a signal blocker there.
- Deliver it in one piece. Edge says part of the payment depends on the car’s condition when it arrives.
Kotaku adds, from Rob Nelson’s interview with IGN, that WAINK can scan a car and show whether it is locked, alarmed or tracked, and what it’s worth at a Pay n’ Spray or a specialty car fence.
Analysis Drive carefully on the way to the drop-off. A damaged car costs you money, and a crash with police behind you costs more. Our Edge preview guide explains trackers and police heat.
2. Holdups and robberies
- Gas stations and jewellery stores. Edge names both as ways to raise cash between missions. It also warns that a gas station holdup can go wrong when a shopper decides to play the hero.
- Confirmed Bank jobs. Rockstar describes Raul Bautista as a seasoned bank robber always looking for talent ready to take big risks for big rewards. Our heists guide covers the bank getaway shown in An Extended Look.
Not announced Whether bank jobs and heists can be replayed for money, how big the payouts are, and whether there’s a planning or crew system.
Analysis Plan the exit before the robbery. Edge suggests leaving a getaway car around the corner, since a car stolen in a hurry may have a tracker, an armed driver or an almost empty tank. Rob Nelson told IGN, as GamesRadar reported, that going beyond what’s necessary on a consistent basis has consequences. A quiet job is likely a more profitable job.
3. Ultimate Edition jobs
If you have the Ultimate Edition, the Xbox Store listing includes two extras that sound like earners:
- Confirmed The PTT Youngin$ compound raid, for special items.
- Confirmed The Classic Car Collection. Rockstar’s screenshots show the collector Wyman with the cars.
Not announced Whether either pays out cash, or only items. The store says Ultimate items are uncovered chapter by chapter, so they won’t all be there from the start. See our Ultimate Edition page.
4. Side activities
Our activities list has every activity Rockstar has named, such as fishing, hunting, scuba diving and airboats.
Not announced Whether any of them pay. In Edge’s preview, a street race came about when a group in a modified 4x4 kept goading Rob Nelson until he accepted, but Edge doesn’t mention a prize.
What about businesses and property?
Rockstar’s character profiles show plenty of business: Boobie Ike runs real estate, a strip club and a recording studio, and Brian Heder moves product through his boat yard. Those businesses are theirs.
Not announced Whether Jason and Lucia can buy businesses that earn money. The garages and safehouses announced so far are on our properties page.
What GTA 5 taught us
This is history only. Rockstar hasn’t said GTA 6 works this way.
Kotaku’s GTA V tips explain that the best money in GTA 5’s story came from Lester’s assassination missions: each one tells you how a company’s stock will be affected, so you invest before the hit. Kotaku also warned that normal mission pay covers guns, armour and car upgrades, but not the most expensive properties and vehicles. Our GTA 5 money guide covers it in full.
Analysis If GTA 6 has a stock market, listen for tips in the story. That’s the habit GTA 5 rewarded. But nobody outside Rockstar knows yet whether it has one.
Avoid “money glitch” and “money generator” offers
GTA 6 is a single player game at launch, and Rockstar hasn’t announced any money cheat. Any site or video offering free GTA 6 cash, a money generator or a modded save is a scam or a way to get your account banned. The PlayStation Store lists optional in-game purchases; Not announced what they are.
