Jason Duval is one of GTA 6's two playable protagonists: an Army veteran working for drug runners in the Leonida Keys who just wants an easy life.

Rockstar’s tagline for Jason: he wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder.
Who he is
Jason grew up around grifters and crooks. He joined the Army to put a troubled adolescence behind him, then ended up in the Leonida Keys doing what he knows best: working for local drug runners. His official profile suggests it might be time for him to try something new.
Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson went a step further in an interview with Famitsu, translated by GamesRadar, describing Jason as former special forces.
He lives rent free at one of Brian Heder’s properties, as long as he helps with local shakedowns. His friend Cal Hampton is another of Brian’s associates. According to Rockstar, meeting Lucia could be the best or worst thing ever to happen to him.
In the trailers
- Trailer 1 (December 2023) showed him only as Lucia’s unnamed partner. Kotaku reported the closing exchange where the two agree to trust each other.
- Trailer 2 (May 2025) gave him a name. Kotaku pointed to Jason picking Lucia up from prison and to the final shot of him dozing on the couch as she comes home. TechRadar linked an early scene, where Brian turns up at Jason’s home and asks him to collect his checks, to the rent arrangement.
- An Extended Look (August 2026) opens with Jason leading a pickup for Boobie Ike that turns into a police raid. Nelson said the team locked that early mission to Jason because his background made it more natural for him to give the orders. TechRadar noted his focus meter, which slows time while he aims.
- The Launch Trailer (October 2026) opens with Jason talking about his Army days. GamesRadar read this as a hint that he did not leave on good terms, and noticed he has long hair in some shots and short hair in others. TechRadar spotted him in tactical gear, wading through water with two men, and wondered if it is a flashback.
Jason and Lucia
Rockstar’s story summary says that when an easy score goes wrong, the couple are pulled into a criminal conspiracy across Leonida and have to rely on each other. Nelson told IGN, as GamesRadar reported, that they “will remain partners in crime” however the romance goes, but how much you nurture the relationship affects how their story plays out. In a Dazed interview covered by TechRadar, Rockstar’s Rupert Humphries compared the story to Bonnie and Clyde.

- Girardi ES9 pistol. The Ultimate Edition version is engraved; GamesRadar noted the words “Sua Sponte”, the motto of the US Army Ranger Regiment.
- Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers (Ultimate Edition), which GamesRadar says carry a “J. Duval” engraving on his version

What we don’t know yet
Rockstar has not named Jason’s voice actor or explained how his Army career ended. The rest of his story arrives with the game on November 19, 2026.
