Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 on May 6, 2025, with no advance notice. It runs 2:47 on the official Trailer 2 page and came just four days after Rockstar moved the launch to May 26, 2026. The date later moved again, to November 19, 2026.
Here is what Rockstar confirmed and what major outlets spotted.
How it was made
Take-Two’s press release stated that all footage was captured on PlayStation 5. The next day, Rockstar added on social media that the trailer was “comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes,” as TechRadar reported. TechRadar also noted the end card pointed to a standard PS5, not the PS5 Pro.
Full names and backstories
The trailer launched alongside a large update to Rockstar’s site. For the first time, the leads had full names: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
According to Rockstar’s character profiles:
- Jason grew up around grifters and joined the Army to leave his troubled teens behind. He ended up in the Keys working for local drug runners.
- Lucia learned to fight young. Fighting for her family landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary, and luck got her out. Her profile mentions that she and her mother once lived in Liberty City.
Rockstar also published the official story summary. In it, an easy score goes wrong and the pair end up “on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America.”
The supporting cast
Rockstar’s Only in Leonida page introduced the wider cast:
- Cal Hampton, Jason’s friend, who likes to listen in on Coast Guard radio from home
- Boobie Ike, a Vice City figure with a strip club, real estate and a recording studio
- Dre’Quan Priest, Boobie’s partner in Only Raw Records
- Real Dimez, a rap duo made up of Bae-Luxe and Roxy
- Raul Bautista, an experienced bank robber
- Brian Heder, a drug runner from the old days of smuggling
The regions of Leonida
The same update named the areas beyond Vice City:
- Leonida Keys, a chain of tropical islands
- Grassrivers, a wild wetland full of alligators
- Port Gellhorn, a run down stretch of coast with cheap motels
- Ambrosia, an industrial town built around a sugar refinery, with a local biker gang
- Mount Kalaga National Park, backwoods country in the north for hunting, fishing and off road trails
TechRadar ran through each region in its write up.
Scenes outlets picked out
- Leaving prison. GamesRadar and Kotaku both pointed to Jason picking Lucia up as she leaves prison, then the pair moving into a life of crime.
- A real couple. Kotaku spotted cuddling, kissing, dancing and holding hands. In the final shot, Lucia comes home and collapses onto Jason on the couch.
- Crime and chaos. GamesRadar said the trailer moves between small robberies and bigger jobs, with gunfights and police chases throughout.
Outlet interpretation
Kotaku argued that the trailer presents a believable relationship, something it says the series has rarely attempted. GamesRadar noted that Jason seems to have a more honest job on the side. Both are readings of the footage, not Rockstar statements.
The song
Trailer 2 is set to “Hot Together” by The Pointer Sisters, a 1980s track that GamesRadar noted is a clear change from Tom Petty in Trailer 1.
Views
Rockstar said Trailer 2 was watched 475 million times across all platforms in its first 24 hours, as TechRadar reported, citing The Hollywood Reporter. TechRadar wrote that this beat the 24 hour totals of major film trailers such as Deadpool & Wolverine.
