Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended LookVideo by Rockstar Games on YouTube

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on August 27, 2026. Rockstar announced it on Newswire on August 6: it would debut on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET, then reach the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the GTA VI site at 9 p.m. ET.

The official page lists a runtime of 26:48. Rockstar says it was “captured entirely from in-game footage on the PlayStation 5.” Kotaku and TechRadar both noted the closing card named the base PS5.

It was the longest look at the game so far and the first proper look at how it plays. Here is what outlets saw.

The opening mission

Jason and Lucia enter an apartment block to collect a package for Boobie Ike. Kotaku and TechRadar reported that Jason is in control here, with Lucia following.

  • Jason stops to pet a dog. Kotaku saw an angel icon appear and guessed it rewards good behavior; that is the outlet’s reading.
  • A police task force raids the building. The pair shoot their way out with shotguns and pistols, then escape in a lift.
  • TechRadar pointed out that play cuts straight into cutscenes and back again with no visible break.

Getting ready for Brian’s party

GamesRadar described Jason boosting a car with a short button prompt to crack the window. Back at their apartment, the couple get ready for a party. Kotaku called it a quiet, sweet moment, with Jason checking the fridge while Lucia dresses.

They then visit Brian Heder at a rooftop party. Kotaku wrote that Brian sounds like actor Stephen Root; Rockstar has not confirmed casting.

A test run

Jason and Lucia meet a new contact who has just committed a crime and needs a ride. Kotaku described Jason firing a rifle at police cars and helicopters while Lucia drives. TechRadar noted that shooting out tires can flip pursuing cars.

Combat and controls

TechRadar listed several systems:

  • Slow motion aiming. Jason uses a focus meter to slow time.
  • Weak spots. Enemies show red and yellow zones. TechRadar guessed red means a kill shot and yellow a disarm.
  • Weapon swaps. Each character has a weapon wheel, and you can grab guns from downed enemies mid fight.
  • Quick time events. In one fight, Lucia gets a prompt with two options, and her line changes depending on your choice.
  • Six star wanted level. One more star than GTA V.
  • A cleaner HUD. The equipped weapon icon from GTA IV is back in the top right corner.

Kotaku compared the gunplay to Max Payne 3.

Switching characters

Near the end, Lucia jumps off a skyscraper and opens her parachute over Vice City. The player then switches to Jason. TechRadar and Kotaku both said the swap takes just a few seconds.

Things to do

Montages showed scooters, scuba diving, swimming, airboats in the swamp, jet skis, canoes, store robberies, car and bike races on a real track, a strip club, target shooting and a livestreamer. Kotaku and TechRadar between them listed these.

The final job

Jason and Lucia work security at a party in disguise. TechRadar noted new outfits and hairstyles for Lucia across missions. Armed attackers storm the building. Lucia, who had to give up her guns, fights her way out by hand and takes one from an attacker.

Small details

GamesRadar picked out:

  • A character called San4San in a “Righteous Slaughter: Hood Ops” T shirt
  • A classic Sentinel convertible, a callback to Vice City
  • A TV ad for a huge Prairie sandwich, which GamesRadar read as a fast food parody
  • Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds” playing in a lift
  • Manatees, dolphins and stingrays in the sea
  • Lucia sweating in a busy nightclub

GamesRadar also mentioned a TV ad for a medicine called Angstipan.
