GTA 6 is set across the state of Leonida, which Rockstar describes as the sunshine state and home to “the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond”.
The official story summary says that when an easy score goes wrong, Jason and Lucia end up on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, caught in a criminal conspiracy that stretches across the whole state.
Regions Rockstar has confirmed
Rockstar’s Only in Leonida page gives each region a heading of its own:
- Vice City, Everything in Excess: the big city, full of glamour, hustle and greed
- Leonida Keys, Gateway to Paradise: a laid back tropical island chain
- Grassrivers, Welcome to the Wetlands: wild wetlands full of gators
- Port Gellhorn, Live Hard: a faded resort town on the forgotten coast
- Ambrosia, Keeping Leonida Sweet: the industrial heartland around a sugar refinery
- Mount Kalaga, Wild, Wild Country: a national park on the northern border
Other places named so far
Rockstar’s character profiles and edition extras mention a handful of smaller spots:
- Leonida Penitentiary, where Lucia served time
- Lake Leonida, home of the One-Eyed Willie’s mod shop
- Watson Bay, where the Paradise Garage stands
- Gambit Bay, a fishing spot
Inside Vice City, Rockstar has also named Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and VC Port.
Leonida and Florida
Rockstar’s own pages do not name a real state, but the hints are clear. “Sunshine state” is Florida’s nickname. Kotaku called Leonida Rockstar’s version of Florida when the first trailer arrived, and Rolling Stone describes it as Florida inspired, with Vice City standing in for Miami.
Beyond Leonida
Leonida is not the whole world. Lucia’s profile says her mother has dreamed of a good life since their days in Liberty City, so that city exists in the same universe. Rockstar has not said whether you can travel there.

Vice City
Vice City is the main city of GTA 6, still the sun and fun capital of America. Rockstar's tagline for it is Everything in Excess.
Leonida Keys
The Leonida Keys are a laid back tropical island chain in GTA 6, right next to some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in America.
Grassrivers
Grassrivers is a wild wetland region in GTA 6, home to gators, deadlier predators and strange discoveries in the mangroves.
Port Gellhorn
Port Gellhorn is Leonida's forgotten coast in GTA 6: a faded vacation town of cheap motels and shut down attractions with a grim new economy.
Ambrosia
Ambrosia is the industrial heartland of Leonida in GTA 6, where the Allied Crystal sugar refinery provides the jobs and a biker gang runs the rest.
Mount Kalaga
Mount Kalaga is a national park on Leonida's northern border in GTA 6, with hunting, fishing and off road trails.
