To avoid GTA 6 spoilers, mute words like “GTA 6 ending” and “GTA 6 leak” on X, TikTok and Instagram, mute the GTA communities you follow on Reddit and Discord, and tell YouTube and Twitch you’re not interested in spoiler videos and streams, because those two have no keyword mute. On PS5, also turn on Spoiler Warnings. It takes about 15 minutes, and the steps for each app are below.

Why now

Footage from unfinished versions of GTA 6 has been circulating online for months, and Variety reported that Rockstar has gone to court to find out where it came from. We don’t link to the leaks or describe them, and nothing on this site is based on them. With the game out on November 19, more clips and story claims will appear in your feeds, and after launch real spoilers will follow. Set your filters once now and they cover both.

Words to mute

Copy these into every app that has a keyword filter. They’re generic on purpose, so the list itself spoils nothing.

  • GTA 6 ending
  • GTA 6 spoilers
  • GTA 6 leak
  • GTA 6 leaked
  • GTA 6 gameplay leak
  • GTA 6 story
  • GTA 6 final mission
  • GTA 6 last mission
  • GTA 6 plot
  • GTA 6 twist
  • GTA VI ending
  • GTA VI leak
  • GTA6 ending
  • GTA6 leak
  • #GTA6Spoilers

Analysis For the strongest filter during your first week, add “Jason Duval” and “Lucia Caminos” too. You’ll also lose harmless posts, but most story spoilers will name one of them.

X

Confirmed X has a real muted words list, according to its help page.

  1. Go to Settings and privacy (on the website it’s under More in the side menu).
  2. Open Privacy and safety, then Mute and block, then Muted words.
  3. Tap the + icon and enter one word, phrase or hashtag. Entries go in one at a time.
  4. Turn on both Home timeline and Notifications.
  5. For notifications, choose From anyone rather than only people you don’t follow.
  6. Under For how long?, pick Forever, 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days, then save.

Analysis Thirty days covers launch week and the weeks after. If you play slowly, choose Forever and remove the words when you’ve finished. Rob Nelson of Rockstar North said his own playthrough, with some optional goals, took about 80 hours, as our how long is GTA 6 guide explains.

TikTok

Confirmed TikTok’s safety help page describes the keyword filter:

  1. Go to your Profile, open the menu and choose Settings and privacy.
  2. Tap Content preferences, then Filter video keywords.
  3. Add a word or hashtag and choose which feeds it applies to. Pick both For You and Following.

TikTok says some words can’t be filtered and that the feature depends on the region where you signed up. Add each phrase from the list, plus a single “GTA6 leak” style version without spaces.

Instagram

Instagram splits this into two tools.

  • Suggested posts. When you hide a suggested post, Instagram’s help page says you can also hide other suggested posts whose captions or hashtags contain specific words, phrases or emojis. Do it on the first GTA spoiler post you see and add the list.
  • Comments and message requests. In Settings, go to Hidden words (under How others can interact with you) and add the same words to your custom list, per this help page. This hides comments and message requests that contain them.

Analysis Neither tool filters posts from accounts you follow. If a GTA account you follow posts leaks or story news, mute or unfollow it until you’ve finished.

YouTube

Confirmed YouTube has no keyword mute for viewers. Its recommendations help page offers these instead:

  1. Next to a video on Home or Watch Next, tap the More (three dots) menu and choose Not interested.
  2. For a channel that keeps posting leaks or story videos, choose Don’t recommend channel from the same menu.
  3. On a TV or console, press and hold select on the video to get the same options.

YouTube also says you can pause your watch history, so what you watch stops shaping your recommendations. Analysis Pausing it before you watch GTA videos keeps your Home feed from filling up with more of them. Thumbnails and titles are where most YouTube spoilers hit, so don’t browse search results for the game until you’re done.

Reddit

Reddit has no keyword mute either. What it has:

  • Mute communities. Open the community, use the menu at the top (…) and choose to mute it. Reddit’s help page says a muted community no longer appears in your Home feed, recommendations, Popular feed or notifications. You can mute up to 1,000.
  • Spoiler tags. Posters and moderators can mark a post as a spoiler, which hides its thumbnail and preview until you choose to open it, per Reddit’s help page. Inside a post or comment, text written as >!like this!< is hidden until tapped (formatting guide).

Analysis Spoiler tags only work when people use them, and titles can’t be hidden. Muting the GTA communities you usually browse is the safer choice until you finish the story.

Discord

  • Mute the channel. Click the bell icon at the top of a channel to mute it, or set the channel’s notification override to Nothing or Mute, per Discord’s help page. Mentions such as @everyone can still get through a muted channel, so turn those off for the server too. Discord also lets you hide muted channels from the list.
  • Use spoiler tags. Wrap text in two bars on each side, ||like this||, and it stays hidden until someone clicks it. For an image or clip, click the Mark as Spoiler eye icon on the attachment before sending. Both are on Discord’s spoiler tags page.

Analysis If you run or join a server for GTA 6, ask for a spoiler channel and a rule to tag story talk. Our GTA Discord servers list shows which communities exist.

Twitch

Confirmed Twitch has no keyword mute for streams. On a recommended channel or category, open the three-dot menu and choose Not interested, and Twitch stops recommending it, says its help page. You can undo it later under Content Preferences in your account settings.

Analysis Marking the GTA 6 category as not interested keeps launch streams off your front page. Streamers you follow will still go live with it, so skip their streams until you’ve caught up.

PS5 and Xbox

  • PS5. Confirmed Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Spoiler Warnings and turn on Warn About Game Spoilers. PlayStation’s blog notes it only works in games that support it. Developers can use it to flag screenshots and clips shared by friends who are further ahead than you, as Kotaku reported. PS5’s Game Help, a PlayStation Plus feature, was built to give hints without spoilers, according to PlayStation. Not announced Rockstar hasn’t said whether GTA 6 supports spoiler warnings, Game Help or Activities.
  • Xbox Series X|S. Xbox has no spoiler setting. We couldn’t find one in the console’s settings or on Microsoft’s support site. Analysis Be careful opening clips friends share with you in the Xbox app or party chat in the first weeks.

Pages to skip if you want it fresh

Our own ending and story pages are spoiler free today and only use what Rockstar has shown. After launch we’ll add the full story to both, behind a clear spoiler warning. If you want to go in knowing nothing, leave them until you’ve finished.

Common questions

Will Rockstar’s own trailers spoil the story?

Analysis Rockstar chose what to show in its trailers, and our ending page notes it hasn’t said where any trailer scene falls in the story. If you want to know as little as possible, you can skip new trailers and launch videos too.

Does TotalGTA post leaks?

No. We don’t use leaked footage or anything taken from it, and we don’t link to it. Our editorial policy explains where our information comes from.

How long should I keep the mutes on?

Analysis Until you finish the story. Most apps let you remove a muted word in the same menu where you added it, so set the longest option and clear the list when you’re done.
