The simplest way to gift GTA 6 is a boxed copy, on sale from November 12, 2026, or a PlayStation Store or Xbox gift card worth at least the game’s price. The PlayStation Store has no button to send a game to someone else, and on November 1 the Microsoft Store didn’t offer GTA 6 as a digital gift while it is a preorder.
Before you buy, check two things: which console they have (GTA 6 is on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only), and which country their account is set to.

Option 1: a boxed copy
Confirmed Take-Two says boxed copies go on sale on November 12, 2026, the day preloading opens, so the person can download the game before it unlocks on November 19. Rockstar’s store says the box only contains a download code, with no disc inside.
That has three consequences for a gift:
- Pick the right console. The PS5 and Xbox boxes are different products; a PS5 code won’t work on an Xbox.
- Buy it in their country. The code redeems on a PlayStation or Microsoft account set to the region the box was made for. PlayStation’s voucher page says codes must match the account’s region, and physical vouchers carry a country flag.
- They need an internet connection to redeem the code and download the game.
Only the Standard Edition comes in a box. Confirmed Rockstar lists the Ultimate Edition as digital only, so if you want to give Ultimate, use a gift card (below), or give the box and let them buy the upgrade later.
Confirmed Copies bought before November 20, 2026, boxed or digital, come with the Vintage Vice City Pack, according to Take-Two. A box bought on November 12 for a birthday on November 30 still counts, because the date that matters is when it was bought. Retailers and their prices are on where to buy GTA 6.
Option 2: a PlayStation Store gift card
PlayStation’s gift card page says the cards work on any digital item in the PlayStation Store, including games and digital preorders. You can buy one in shops, from online retailers that email the code, or as a digital card sent by email.
How they use it on PS5:
- Open the PlayStation Store and press the triangle button to open the menu.
- Select … (More) > Redeem Code.
- Enter the 12-digit code and select Redeem. The money goes into their wallet.
- Buy GTA 6 (Standard or Ultimate) from the store. Wallet money is used first, and any shortfall goes on their card.
They can also redeem on the web (profile menu > Redeem Code) or in the PlayStation App.
Things to check:
- Amount. Make sure the card covers the edition they want in their country. US prices are $79.99 (Standard) and $99.99 (Ultimate); every other country is in our price by country table.
- Region. Buy the card for the country their account is in.
- Child accounts. PlayStation says child accounts have no wallet of their own: wallet codes go on the family manager’s account, which sets the child’s spending limit. GTA 6 is rated M (17+) by the ESRB and 18 by PEGI, so parental controls may block it anyway; see PS5 parental controls for GTA 6.
Confirmed The PlayStation Store listing adds a one-month GTA+ membership to digital preorders of the game made on the PS Store. Analysis It doesn’t mention a payment method, so a preorder paid with gift card money should qualify too, as long as it’s made before launch.
Option 3: an Xbox gift card
Microsoft says money from an Xbox or Microsoft gift card can be spent on games in the Microsoft Store on Xbox. Microsoft’s preorder page also says that a preorder paid with Microsoft account money is charged straight away, so the balance works for preordering GTA 6.
How they use it:
- Go to the Redeem page (redeem.microsoft.com), or redeem on the console.
- Make sure they’re signed in to the Microsoft account they play on, then enter the code.
- Buy or preorder GTA 6 from the Microsoft Store.
If you buy a digital gift card on the Microsoft Store, put their name and email as the recipient. Microsoft warns that a card you buy for yourself adds the money to your own account.
Option 4: send GTA 6 as an Xbox digital gift
Microsoft lets you buy many Xbox games as a digital gift: you pay, and the person receives an email with a code to redeem. When Microsoft launched gifting in 2017, it said gifts can only be redeemed in the country they were bought in, and that preorders couldn’t be gifted.
On November 1, 2026, the Microsoft Store page for GTA VI offered no gift option for either edition, while released games on the store did. Analysis Once GTA 6 is out on November 19, it may become giftable like other Xbox games. We will check on launch day and update this page.
When it is available, you’ll need the email address of their Microsoft account. Gifting from your own Xbox also lets you pick them by gamertag from your friends list, Microsoft said in 2017.
Can I gift GTA 6 digitally on PlayStation?
Not directly. PlayStation’s store and support pages describe gift cards and voucher codes as the way to give digital games; there is no option to buy a game for another account. A gift card (Option 2) is the official route.
Analysis Be wary of anyone selling cheap “GTA 6 gift codes” or “account shares” online. A boxed copy from a known retailer or a gift card from the official stores is the safe way to give it. Codes from unknown sellers may be for the wrong region, already used or not genuine.
Common questions
Can I gift the Ultimate Edition?
Not as a box: Ultimate is digital only. Give a gift card that covers the Ultimate price in their country, or give the boxed Standard Edition and let them add the upgrade later. Our editions guide covers the differences.
Will they get the preorder bonus?
Confirmed Yes, if the game is bought before November 20, 2026. Take-Two says the Vintage Vice City Pack comes with every preorder and purchase made before that date, in any format.
Can I give someone my copy after I’ve played it?
A digital copy stays on the account that bought it. A boxed copy’s code works once, so a used box can’t be passed on after the code has been redeemed.
Is GTA 6 OK as a gift for a teenager?
It is rated ESRB M (17+) and PEGI 18. The Xbox Store listing names Intense Violence, Blood and Gore, Strong Sexual Content, Nudity, Strong Language and drug content among the ESRB descriptors; see GTA 6 is rated M. Check the rating where you live and the console’s Xbox or PS5 parental controls before you give it.
