The official Xbox Store listing shows GTA 6 rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB.
The listed content descriptors are:
- Blood and Gore
- Intense Violence
- Mature Humor
- Nudity
- Strong Language
- Strong Sexual Content
- Use of Drugs and Alcohol
The ESRB’s own rating page for Grand Theft Auto VI lists the same seven descriptors for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, and adds one interactive element: In-Game Purchases.
In Europe, the UK PlayStation Store and Xbox Store listings show PEGI 18. PEGI’s own search does not list the game yet, so we have taken the rating from those official store pages.

What the descriptors mean
The ESRB’s ratings guide defines each label. In short:
- M (Mature 17+): content generally suitable for ages 17 and up.
- Intense Violence: graphic, realistic physical conflict, which may include weapons, injury and death.
- Blood and Gore: depictions of blood or mutilation.
- Strong Sexual Content: explicit or frequent sexual behaviour, possibly with nudity.
- Nudity: graphic or prolonged nudity.
- Strong Language: explicit or frequent profanity.
- Mature Humor: adult humour, including sexual references.
- Use of Drugs and Alcohol: characters consume illegal drugs and alcohol.
- In-Game Purchases: the game offers digital goods or extras for real money.
PEGI applies 18 when violence becomes gross violence or there is explicit sexual activity. Its In-Game Purchases label appears whenever content can be bought in the game.
What this means for you
- GTA 6 is an adult game in both systems. Expect graphic violence, sex, nudity, drug use and strong language.
- PlayStation and Xbox parental controls can restrict games by age rating, so these labels are what those settings check against.
- The In-Game Purchases notice means the game can sell extras. Rockstar has not detailed what those will be. The Ultimate Edition is a paid upgrade; see our GTA 6 editions and price guide.
- The rating is the same on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Details on both versions are in our platforms and requirements guide.
