Franklin Clinton is the youngest of Grand Theft Auto V’s three playable leads. When the story begins he works as a repo man for a car dealer, Simeon Yetarian, and wants to move up in the criminal world.
Who he is
IGN’s guide explains that Franklin was raised by his aunt after his mother died. He ran with a gang and sold drugs until that life put him in prison, and after his release he decided to aim higher. He is close to his best friend Lamar Davis, and he ends up caring for Lamar’s Rottweiler, Chop.
TechRadar describes him as a perceptive young man who picks up his driving skills on the repo job. A car scam brings him into contact with Michael De Santa, who becomes a mentor, and later he works alongside Trevor Philips as well.
Gameplay
Franklin’s special ability slows time while he drives, so he can take sharp turns at full speed. IGN notes it is useful in races and police chases. His own vehicle is a green Bagger motorcycle.
Voice actor
Franklin is played by Shawn Fonteno, credited by PC Gamer and GamesRadar. In a GamesRadar interview he talked about wearing the motion capture suit for the first time on GTA 5, and said DJ Pooh introduced him to Rockstar. He returned as Franklin in the GTA Online update The Contract (2021), where Franklin runs a celebrity fixer agency.
Spoiler
Near the end of the story Franklin has to make a choice that decides the fate of Michael and Trevor. Kotaku lists the three options: kill Trevor, kill Michael, or try to save both. GamesRadar reports that in The Contract his house in the hills is labeled “The Clintons” and a car plate reads TAN1SHA, which hints that he settled down with Tanisha Jackson.
