The Dodo is a small plane with a long history in Grand Theft Auto. IGN’s San Andreas vehicle guide calls it the classic plane of the series, one that players used to dismiss as junk. In San Andreas it has come good: IGN rates it a decent small plane to grab when nothing better is around.
Where to find it
IGN says the Dodo can be found at all of the major airports, such as Los Santos International. Getting onto the airfields is easier once you have a pilot’s license. IGN’s Pilot School guide says you earn it by finishing the first three Pilot School tests with at least a bronze medal, and that it gives you access to every airport in the game.
The Pilot School itself is at the Verdant Meadows Airstrip and opens after the mission Learning to Fly.
How it handles
IGN’s one warning is that the Dodo tilts heavily, so small inputs go a long way. IGN’s Pilot School tips, written for the school’s planes, are a good place to start:
- Take off with the throttle held down and ease the nose up gently.
- Turn by easing off the throttle and changing direction slowly, rather than making sharp inputs that send the plane into a spin.
- Land by holding the brake as you come down, making sure the landing gear is out and angling the nose up a little to protect it.

The Shamal is another plane IGN lists at the major airports. For something with weapons, the Pilot School’s gold reward is the Hunter, and the Hydra jet joins it at Verdant Meadows later in the story.
