The Hunter is the attack helicopter of GTA San Andreas. IGN describes it as a military helicopter, and it is the top prize of the Pilot School at CJ’s own airstrip in the desert.
How to unlock it
The Pilot School opens after the mission Verdant Meadows, where CJ buys the airstrip. Each test is graded, and IGN lists the rewards by overall result:
- Bronze: Rustler
- Silver: Stuntplane
- Gold: Hunter
You need a gold medal in every test to earn the Hunter. Once you have it, IGN says it spawns next to a hangar at the Verdant Meadows Airstrip, so you can come back for a fresh one whenever you need it.
Getting to know it in the school
You fly the Hunter in several Pilot School lessons before you own it. One asks you to lift off and turn the helicopter 180 degrees to find a ring, another to land it inside a ring on the runway. The hardest one, according to IGN, has you destroy three Linerunner trucks and then two moving Landstalkers with its missiles and miniguns before landing again. IGN suggests the miniguns are the safer choice for the moving targets unless you are a good shot with missiles.
Good uses
IGN’s best vehicles guide calls the Hunter the best helicopter in the game, with enough weapons to destroy almost anything in its path. If you have not finished the Pilot School, the same guide says you can try to steal one from the Easter Basin Naval Station in San Fierro, though Hydra jets will chase you. Its base is also handy for other late game vehicles: the Hydra and the Jetpack spawn at the same airstrip once you unlock them.
