Verdant Meadows is an abandoned airfield in the far north east of the desert, just east of El Castillo del Diablo and outside Las Venturas. IGN places it in Bone County. It becomes CJ’s base during the desert chapter of the story.
Buying the airstrip
In the mission Verdant Meadows, Mike Toreno tells CJ to buy the place. IGN puts the price at $80,000 and notes that the game does not mark the spot for you, though an airplane icon shows on the radar. Once it is bought, a television in the office upstairs opens the next mission, Learning to Fly, and the pilot school. Kotaku points out that CJ has to learn to fly planes and helicopters before Toreno will use him.
What’s there
- Pilot School: ten tests, from a simple take off to a parachute drop onto a target. IGN lists the reward vehicles by result: Rustler for bronze, Stuntplane for silver and Hunter for gold.
- Airstrip missions: N.O.E., Stowaway, Black Project and Green Goo start from an icon on the tarmac. Black Project sends CJ into Area 69.
- Asset income: after Green Goo, the airstrip earns up to $10,000, which IGN calls joint highest of any asset.
- Jetpack: also after Green Goo, The Truth leaves the jetpack here for good, near the water tank on the strip.
- A safehouse in the main building, where IGN’s walkthrough tells you to save after the purchase.
Later visits
The airstrip comes back in the final chapter. At the end of Vertical Bird, IGN’s walkthrough has CJ fly the stolen jet back to the landing strip at Verdant Meadows and taxi it into a hangar.
