Whetstone is a rural county in the southwest of San Andreas. GamesRadar+ describes it, together with Flint County, stretching west from Los Santos to the ocean, and GameSpot’s guide places Mount Chiliad in the southwest corner of the map. IGN groups its missions with Flint County and Red County as the countryside chapter between Los Santos and San Fierro.
What’s there
- Angel Pine: the county’s town, with a trailer park, an Ammu-Nation, a motel and a junkyard. It is where CJ ends up after leaving Los Santos.
- Mount Chiliad: the great mountain north of Angel Pine, scene of Badlands and the Chiliad Challenge bike races.
- Safehouse: IGN lists one in Angel Pine at $20,000, available after The Green Sabre.
- Unique jumps: IGN counts three in Whetstone, worth $1,500 in total. One uses a sand dune on the beach south of Angel Pine, one a ramp in the trailer park and one a wooden ramp on Mount Chiliad.
- Oysters: IGN lists the Whetstone Oyster under a concrete bridge on the river, and the Mount Chiliad Oyster further north up the same river.
Story
Whetstone is where the countryside chapter begins. IGN’s walkthrough of Badlands notes that CJ arrives in Angel Pine without the weapons he had in the city, and Tenpenny sends him straight up Mount Chiliad. Soon after, The Truth appears at the U Get Inn Motel in Angel Pine, and Cesar and Kendl join CJ in town. GamesRadar+ remembers exploring Whetstone and the neighboring counties as feeling like being set free after the city.
