The Truth is a hippie with a head full of conspiracy theories. PC Gamer calls him a paranoid hippy, and GamesRadar credits him with introducing CJ to a countryside world of survivalists and conspiracy theorists.
Who he is
After CJ’s first job with Catalina, he gets a call from a man calling himself The Truth. IGN’s guide places him at the U Get Inn motel in Angel Pine, and his missions are marked TT on the map.
Role in the story
In “Body Harvest” The Truth sends CJ to a farm in the hills to steal a combine harvester, guarded by armed cultists on tractors. “Are You Going to San Fierro?” ends the countryside chapter: police helicopters interrupt The Truth’s meditation, CJ burns his weed crop with a flamethrower, shoots down a chopper with a rocket launcher, then drives the Mothership into San Fierro.
He turns up again in Las Venturas. In “Don Peyote” he admits he took a British rock band up to Arco del Oeste to take peyote, and CJ has to round them up, starting with Kent Paul and Maccer. He is also behind two of the airstrip missions near Verdant Meadows. “Black Project” is a night raid on Area 69 that ends with CJ flying out of a silo with a jetpack, and GamesRadar lists it among the series’ most WTF missions. In “Green Goo” CJ uses the jetpack to raid a train for a crate of the title’s mysterious goo and bring it back to The Truth.
Voice actor
The game’s manual credits Peter Fonda as The Truth. GamesRadar’s 2004 preview picked him out as one of the big names in the cast, alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Ice T, and GameSpot’s review calls his performance very strong.
