Maccer is a British musician who turns up in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas alongside the band manager Kent Paul. GameSpot’s 2004 cast report describes him as a former member of a Manchester techno group, and the role is played by Shaun Ryder, the real lead singer of the Happy Mondays.
Who he is
CJ first runs into Maccer in “Don Peyote”, a mission from The Truth. The Truth admits he took a British rock band up to Arco del Oeste to take peyote and watch the sunset, and CJ has to go and round them up. The first pair he finds are Paul and Maccer. GameSpot’s guide notes that you need a four door car to ferry the band around. After a stop at a snake farm turns violent, CJ drives everyone into Las Venturas and pulls up outside Caligula’s Palace.
Role in the story
That drop off links Maccer and Paul to Ken Rosenberg, who is introduced to CJ as his new inside contact at Caligula’s. From there, GameSpot’s guide explains, Kent Paul starts calling CJ with work on Ken’s behalf, so the pair stay on the fringes of the Las Venturas story.
Voice actor
The game’s manual credits Shaun Ryder as Maccer, and IGN’s cast list and GamesRadar’s 2004 preview list him too. GameSpot called the casting of the Happy Mondays singer as Maccer one of the game’s master strokes.
