Zero is the owner of a radio controlled toy shop in San Fierro, and PC Gamer describes him simply as the city’s resident nerd. His missions are a throwback to the RC jobs from GTA 3 and Vice City, and they are all about his feud with a rival hobbyist, Berkley.
How to unlock him
IGN’s guide explains that Zero’s missions open once you have finished CJ’s mission “Wear Flowers in Your Hair” and bought his shop, marked with a Z on the map, for $30,000. GameSpot’s guide stresses that the missions are optional: they don’t move the main story forward, but finishing them turns the shop into an asset that earns money over time.
Role in the story
- “Air Raid” puts CJ on Zero’s roof behind a minigun, shooting down waves of Berkley’s RC planes before they bomb the transmitters.
- “Supply Lines” has you fly an RC plane around the city to take out Berkley’s delivery drivers, all before the plane runs out of fuel. GameSpot calls it one of the hardest missions in the game.
- “New Model Army” is the final showdown on a model battlefield. You fly an RC helicopter with a magnet, clearing barrels, bombing tanks and laying planks so Zero’s RC car can reach Berkley’s base.
Zero also has a part to play later in the story, when Woozie and CJ plan their casino heist in Las Venturas.
Voice actor
The game’s manual credits David Cross as Zero. GameSpot’s review calls the comedian pretty funny as the nerdy hobby store owner, and GameSpot’s 2004 cast report called the casting of the Mr. Show star as a nebbish science geek a master stroke.
