Los Santos is the first of the three big cities in GTA San Andreas and the place Carl Johnson calls home. Rockstar’s original game site described it as a city tearing itself apart through gang trouble, drugs and corruption, where film stars and millionaires try to keep clear of the dealers. GamesRadar+ reported before launch that Los Santos is, in effect, Los Angeles, and later wrote that its missions lean on gang warfare and police corruption, drawn from LA’s reputation in the early 1990s.
What’s there
GamesRadar+ listed the main quarters in 2004: the Vinewood hills and their giant sign, the boutiques of Rodeo, a beach district with a pier and funfair, and a downtown of towers. The Los Santos Tower in Downtown Los Santos is a 94 story block, per GamesRadar+. Rockstar’s game manual sums up the city as celebrity and sprawling ghettos, and its airport, Los Santos International, handles flights to the other cities.
IGN counts 57 gang territories across the city’s neighborhoods, from Idlewood and East Los Santos to Santa Maria Beach. Safehouses for sale at the start include Jefferson, El Corona, Verona Beach, Santa Maria Beach and Mulholland, on top of the Johnson house on Grove Street.
Story
IGN lists 28 missions in the opening Los Santos chapter, given by Sweet, Big Smoke, Ryder, OG Loc, C.R.A.S.H. and Cesar. GamesRadar+ notes that the story then moves clockwise around the state, out to the countryside, San Fierro and Las Venturas, before CJ returns to Los Santos for the final chapter.
Key people here include CJ, Sweet, Big Smoke and Officer Tenpenny.
