Grove Street

Grove Street is the home turf of the Grove Street Families in Ganton, Los Santos; GameSpot’s guide places CJ’s house in Ganton. GamesRadar+ wrote in 2004 that CJ grew up in this poor neighborhood, known as The Grove, and that the gang, dressed in green, had once been the strongest in the city before the Ballas hemmed it in. Rockstar’s prologue material for the game says a drive by in Grove Street Family territory sets the whole story in motion.

What’s there

• The Johnson house: CJ’s family home and his first save point. IGN’s guide finds a wardrobe upstairs and a camera by the bed. It also becomes an asset that pays out more the more gang territory CJ holds, collected outside the house after Doberman.
• Sweet’s house on the same street. IGN suggests jumping across from the roof next to CJ’s home to grab a Tec-9 on Sweet’s roof. The Ganton Gym is next to CJ’s house.
• Rewards: spraying all 100 Tags makes Molotovs, a Sawn-Off Shotgun, a Tec-9 and an AK-47 appear in the Johnson kitchen, and GamesRadar+ adds that local gang members carry better guns. At 100% completion, IGN says a Rhino appears under the bridge next to the house.

Story

The game starts with CJ cycling back to Grove Street after corrupt cops dump him on his way from the airport, and it ends here too. GamesRadar+ notes that the story moves clockwise around the state from this starting point. In the final chapter, Home Coming has CJ bring Sweet home from jail and clear dealers and Ballas out of the street, and Riot sends him back to lock down the hood. The last mission, End of the Line, starts from Sweet’s marker on Grove Street. GamesRadar+ lists Tenpenny’s death in a fire truck crash over Grove Street among the series’ greatest moments.
