By the Book

By the Book follows on from Three’s Company. Michael searches for a target with a sniper rifle while Trevor is made to question Mr. K for the information. Kotaku calls it one of the most controversial missions in the game and a disturbing one to play, noting that Trevor’s own reaction cuts through the hypocrisy around torture.

Walkthrough

1. As Michael, get in the car and drive to the first marker in Rockford Hills.
2. The first questioning session starts. As Trevor, pick a tool from the tray. IGN notes the four tools can be used in any order.
3. Switch back to Michael, drive to the marker at Chumash and look through the sniper scope.
4. Keep swapping as the game prompts: after each session, look through Michael’s scope again, then switch back to Trevor for the next tool.
5. As Michael, find the man in red overalls smoking with his left hand and take the shot. IGN warns his position changes on a replay.
6. As Trevor, drive Mr. K to the airport to finish.

Gold medal tips

• To get the medal in one run, use all four tools, the jerry can of water, the pliers, the wrench and the electric clamps, without letting Mr. K’s heart stop.
• Watch the heart rate monitor. If he flatlines, Trevor has to revive him with an adrenaline shot, which costs the heart objective.
• IGN suggests leaving the clamps until last. Do not hold them on for too long.
