The Skimmer is a seaplane, and GameSpot’s guide says it is the only plane you can fly in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. It has floats for landing gear, so it has to take off from the water. IGN’s 2002 review lists it as a plane that floats on water. Rockstar’s own manual for the game sells the seaplane to visitors as a great way to see the city.
Where to find it
GameSpot notes that a plane only becomes available much later in the game, through the film studio missions. The seaplane belongs to InterGlobal Films on Prawn Island: IGN says it is moored at the studio’s private jetty, and that it stays available there for good once you finish Dildo Dodo.
Dildo Dodo
Dildo Dodo is the second InterGlobal mission. Tommy wants to promote the studio’s film by dropping flyers over the city.
- Go out to the jetty and get in the seaplane.
- Fly through a blue ring to start dropping flyers, then on to the red marker to finish that route. There are six routes.
- A fuel gauge replaces the usual time limit, but IGN says there is plenty of fuel, so the real danger is hitting buildings.
The reward is $2,000, the fuel gauge goes away, and you are free to fly for fun.
Flying tips
GameSpot’s advice: build up speed before you lift off, gain speed by climbing and diving in turn, and don’t touch the water again once airborne. You lose airspeed in turns, and the Skimmer is much less precise than a helicopter, so give buildings a wide berth.
Top speed
