Hilary King is the getaway driver in Tommy Vercetti’s bank robbery crew in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The game’s manual lists him in a mock advert as the driver to call when you need to get somewhere in a hurry, with a warning not to upset him.
Who he is
Hilary is a skilled and aggressive driver. IGN’s guide describes him as more aggressive than most drivers in the game, quick to run you off the road, though his reckless style means he takes corners badly. Like Phil Cassidy, he will not join until Tommy proves himself.
Role in the story
Hilary is part of the Malibu Club storyline. In The Driver, the third Malibu mission, Tommy has to beat him in a street race to win him over. GameSpot’s guide points out that you start the race with a wanted level, and suggests either driving cleanly or riding Hilary’s tail to spin him out on the turns.
Once he is on board, Hilary joins the bank raid in The Job, circling the block while Tommy, Cam Jones and Phil Cassidy go inside El Banco Corrupto Grande.
Voice actor
Hilary is voiced by Charles Tucker, credited in the game’s manual.
Spoiler
IGN’s guide notes that Hilary does not survive “The Job”. He has to be kept safe until a scripted moment in the mission, but he dies whatever you do.
