Lazlow is the voice of V-Rock, the rock station in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. You hear him on the car radio between the heavy metal and hard rock tracks.
Who he is
Lazlow is a recurring radio personality in the Grand Theft Auto series, and Kotaku points out that the real Lazlow is a radio personality too, just like the character. In Vice City he is a younger take on the talk show host from GTA 3. GameSpot’s review found the rock station the funniest on the dial, because Lazlow keeps insisting he is a hard rocking rebel while sounding like anything but.
Role in the game
Lazlow is not part of Tommy’s story and gives no missions. He shows up between the tracks on V-Rock, which IGN’s review lists alongside bands like Judas Priest, Megadeth and Iron Maiden, plus songs by the game’s own band, Love Fist. Rockstar’s Dan Houser confirmed in a GameSpot interview before launch that Lazlow would host the rock show, and joked that players were spared having him on two stations at once.
Behind the scenes
Lazlow was also one of the people making the radio. The game’s manual credits him with writing the radio scripts and DJ banter with Dan Houser and producing the stations, and he also voices some of the commercials. PC Gamer reports that Lazlow Jones started out scripting and hosting talk radio for GTA 3, stayed with the series up to GTA 5 and left Rockstar after about two decades.
Voice actor
Lazlow plays himself. IGN’s original review lists Lazlow Jones as Lazlow the DJ in its rundown of the cast.
