Fort Zancudo is the army base on the edge of Blaine County. A military base was one of the things Rockstar promised for the map before launch, as Kotaku reported. PC Gamer says the satellite view of the map labels the area Lago Zancudo, just south of the North Chumash beach, with Mount Josiah and the small town of Harmony to the east.
What’s there
Fences, gates and guards surround the base, but inside are military vehicles, including a fighter jet and a tank. The Guardian notes that jets from the base can often be seen flying through nearby Raton Canyon.
Getting in
PC Gamer’s guide gives three routes for Story Mode:
- By air: entering the airspace gives a 2 star wanted level and a radio warning, rising to 4 stars and guided missiles if you stay. Bailing out with a parachute close to the ground gives you a little time to grab a vehicle.
- By fast car: jump a fence from a nearby hill and land on the concrete road between the two outer fences. You can drive along it without a wanted level until you leave the road, which brings 4 stars.
- By motorcycle: you can sometimes slip past the front checkpoint while the guard looks away.
GTA Online
The base stays off limits in GTA Online, and the ground checkpoints never open. PC Gamer notes that the Smuggler’s Run update in 2017 added three hangars you can buy on the base. Owners can enter without a wanted level, though firing a weapon or stealing a vehicle still brings 2 stars.
Story missions
We have not found a reliable source that ties a story mission specifically to the base, so none is listed here.
