The Grand Senora Desert is the stretch of sand and rock north of Los Santos in Blaine County. The Guardian picked it as one of ten places every GTA 5 player should visit.
What’s there
The Guardian describes it as a barren expanse of sweltering scrubland. It is home to the town of Sandy Shores and to the Alamo Sea, a salt lake the paper says is based on the Salton Sea in southern California. The desert also draws drug dealers and outlaw biker gangs, so expect trouble on the back roads.
On the eastern side of the desert is Senora National Park. The Guardian says it was inspired by Joshua Tree National Park. We list that as the inspiration for the park only, since the outlet does not name a single real model for the whole desert.
For collectors, GamesRadar+ places a Monkey Mosaic in the Grand Senora Desert around the back of the Animal Ark store, between stacks of wooden pallets. Mosaics only appear in the PS4, Xbox One and later versions.
Story missions
The Sandy Shores airfield is used in story missions such as Surveying the Score and Monkey Business. See the Sandy Shores page for details.
