Raton Canyon is a long, deep corridor of rock that connects the Alamo Sea to the Pacific Ocean in Blaine County. The Guardian says it is based on Bixby Creek in Big Sur, especially the huge Cassidy Creek Bridge at the far end.
The name
According to the Guardian, the name comes from Jack Kerouac’s 1962 novel Big Sur, in which the narrator visits a fictional place called Raton Canyon.
What’s there
Fighter jets from the nearby Fort Zancudo military base often fly through the canyon, the Guardian notes.
The canyon also has a small part in the Epsilon side story. GamesRadar+ says a question mark appears in Raton Canyon, where you find a red truck. The task is only a cutscene, so just locate the truck.
Story missions
In Predator, the action moves out to the canyon. Following IGN’s walkthrough, after a character switch you head for the airfield, take the Frogger helicopter and fly out to Raton Canyon, where Michael’s sniping section begins at the waypoint.
