Paleto Bay is a rural town on the northern coast of Blaine County. The Guardian calls it the embodiment of small town America, with stars and stripes bunting and independent shops, and says its design and layout are based on Fillmore, a town in Ventura County, California.
What’s there
West of town is Paleto Forest, a coniferous forest popular with deer hunters, and Paleto Cove, a string of small rocky islands, according to the Guardian. Collectibles listed by GamesRadar+:
- Epsilon tract: at the end of the Sonar Collections Dock in Paleto Cove, down the short steps.
- Letter Scrap: north of town, in the small back room of a house with a collapsed roof beside the Pay n Spray.
- Two Monkey Mosaics in Paleto Bay (PS4, Xbox One and later versions only).
Story missions
Paleto Bay is home to the bank at the center of one of the game’s big heists. Following IGN’s walkthrough:
- Paleto Score Setup: you drive to Paleto Bay, meets Lester at a bus stop and then takes a look at the bank’s front door. The gold medal time limit runs to the meeting point, not to the bank.
- The Paleto Score: the crew drives into town, drops Franklin off and starts the heist at the bank. One gold medal goal asks you to cause $1 million of damage in Paleto Bay.
- Pack Man: after picking up Lamar, the crew drives a car into a big rig at Devon Weston’s garage and makes the long drive to Paleto Bay. The police catch up with them near town.
