The Freeway is a motorcycle in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Guides tend to mention it in the same breath as the Angel, because the two ride much the same and both appear in the biker gang missions. IGN’s 2002 review counted four kinds of motorcycle in the game: a street bike, a chopper, a scooter and a dirt bike.

Handling

GameSpot’s guide sums up the Freeway and the Angel together: clunky bikes with a high top speed but unresponsive handling. Compare that with the PCJ 600, which GameSpot rates as the best bike in the game, or the Sanchez, which is better off road. Like every bike, the Freeway throws you off in a hard crash, so give corners plenty of room.

Alloy Wheels of Steel

The Freeway’s main moment comes in the biker missions for Mitch Baker. Kent Paul wants security for Love Fist, and Mitch only agrees once Tommy proves himself in Alloy Wheels of Steel, a checkpoint race through the city.

  1. Talk to Mitch at the Greasy Chopper in Downtown.
  2. Outside the bar, choose an Angel or a Freeway. IGN says the two perform almost the same, so it makes no real difference.
  3. Ride around a little to get used to the handling, then pull up at the start.
  4. The course is mostly straight roads with gentle turns. IGN’s main warning is that both bikes spin out easily if you take a turn too fast.

Win and you get $1,000, which opens the next biker mission.

Top speed

We don’t list a top speed because we haven’t found a measured or official figure from an allowed source.
