A USB drive can free space, but cannot run PS5 games
The blog links to Sony’s USB extended storage guidance. Confirmed PlayStation Support says you can move PS5 games you are not using to USB storage, but must copy them back to console storage before playing them. PS4 games can run directly from USB.
