Rockstar’s store page confirms that GTA 6 preloading begins on November 12, 2026, one week before the game launches on November 19.
Preloading means you can download the game ahead of time, so it is installed and ready the moment it unlocks.
Physical copies are a download code
Rockstar’s store page says physical versions will only contain a download code inside the box, and a disc will not be included. So even if you buy a boxed copy, you need to download the game. Plan for that if your internet is slow.

Who can preload
Rockstar’s June preorder announcement says players who preorder a digital version can start preloading on November 12, so they can play at launch on November 19.
For boxed copies, Rockstar says the physical version will be available from November 12 to support preloading. The Rockstar Store says its physical orders start shipping from that date, and after launch they ship in an estimated one to seven days, depending on the shipping option.
What this means for you
- Preloading does not let you play early. It only gets the download out of the way before launch.
- If you buy a boxed copy, you redeem the code on your console account and download from there. The game cannot be installed from the box.
- PlayStation codes bought from the Rockstar Store are region locked: US and Canada orders need a US or Canadian account, UK orders a UK account, and other European orders an account in one of the listed European countries.
- Clear space before November 12. With no official size, free up as much as you reasonably can.
