Rockstar hasn’t announced GTA 6’s difficulty or accessibility settings. No easy or hard mode has been confirmed, and neither store lists the game’s accessibility features yet. What you can do now is set up your console: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S both have system-wide options, such as button remapping, captions and screen readers, that work regardless of what the game offers.

Not announced Rockstar hasn’t published a settings list for GTA 6. We’ll add the full in-game menu, option by option, after launch on November 19, 2026.

What the stores show

  • Confirmed The PlayStation Store listing shows no accessibility section for GTA VI yet. It lists one player, offline play, Remote Play, and DualSense vibration and trigger effects.
  • Confirmed The Xbox Store listing shows “Optimized for Xbox Series X|S” and “Single player” under capabilities, and no accessibility features.

Sony’s accessibility page explains that developers can add Accessibility Tags to a game’s store page, covering things like visual and audio settings, DualSense options, difficulty settings and chat transcription. Analysis If Rockstar adds tags before or after launch, the PS Store page is the first place they’ll show. We’ll check it again on launch day.

Is there a difficulty setting?

Not announced Rockstar hasn’t mentioned difficulty modes. What it has described is a game where the world pushes back harder than before:

  • You’re less overpowered. Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson told IGN, as GamesRadar reported, that in earlier games you were overpowered compared to everyone but the police. In GTA 6, you are not the only one capable of violence, and going beyond what’s necessary on a consistent basis has consequences. GamesRadar read this as a kind of dynamic difficulty.
  • Police depend on what they know. Nelson told IGN that one star “is not going to be too difficult” to escape, while three stars in the city can be hard to shake in a car, as GamesRadar reported. The wanted level now goes up to six stars.
  • Some leeway first. Edge’s preview says the game allows a degree of latitude before behaviour turns into a wanted level, and pays attention to whether anyone actually saw you.

Analysis So, before launch, the real “difficulty dial” looks like how you play: how loud you are, whether you’re seen, and how you escape. Our Edge preview guide explains the heat system that drives it.

Controls: what has been reported

  • Sprint moves to the left stick. Kotaku reported that YouTuber Mikeshowsha was told during a visit to Rockstar North that you now sprint by clicking the left stick, instead of tapping a button. Not announced Whether there is a setting to bring back tap-to-sprint, or full button mapping. Kotaku expects controller options based on GTA 5, but that is its prediction.

Analysis For many players with limited hand movement, an end to rapid tapping is good news. Others may find clicking a stick harder. That’s why a remapping option matters, and why the console-level remapping below is worth setting up.

What GTA 5 and RDR2 offered

This is history, to show what Rockstar has done before. It doesn’t mean GTA 6 has the same options.

  • Red Dead Redemption 2: Kotaku’s tips point to the controls menu, where you can switch running between holding and tapping a button, turn sprinting into a left-stick toggle, try a “Standard FPS” layout for first person, and lower the aim and look dead zone.
  • GTA 5: Kotaku says GTA 5 had an option to hold a button to sprint. Its GTA V tips also recommend turning on subtitles.

Set up your PS5 now

All of these are under Settings > Accessibility on PS5, according to Sony’s settings guide:

SettingWhat it does
Controllers > Custom Button AssignmentsRemaps DualSense buttons system wide
Display and Sound > ZoomMagnifies the screen (PS + square). Not available during Remote Play or broadcasting
Display and Sound > Text Size, Bold Text, High ContrastLarger, clearer system text
Display and Sound > Color Correction, Invert ColorsColour filters. Invert Colors turns off HDR
Display and Sound > Reduce MotionLess motion in the console’s menus
Screen ReaderReads on-screen text aloud, in supported languages
Closed CaptionsCaptions for supported media, with a custom style
Chat TranscriptionTurns voice chat into text and reads typed text aloud

Also on PS5:

  • Mono audio for headphones is under Settings > Sound > Audio Output.
  • Game Presets (Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets) let you set a default difficulty, camera inversion for first and third person, subtitles and audio language. Sony’s presets page notes that difficulty and performance presets only apply to games that offer them.

Set up your Xbox now

Microsoft’s accessibility page lists these console features:

  • Button mapping through the Xbox Accessories app, for the Wireless Controller, Adaptive Controller and Adaptive Joystick.
  • Controller Assist, which links two controllers so they act as one. One player can use both, or two people can share the controls.
  • Narrator (screen reader) and Magnifier.
  • Colour filters for three types of colour vision deficiency, high contrast, and night mode.
  • Speech to text and text to speech for party and game chat.
  • Break reminders every 30 minutes to two hours.
  • The Xbox Adaptive Controller and Adaptive Joystick for custom setups.

Analysis Controller Assist and button mapping work at the system level, so they’re the most useful things to set up before launch if you need them.
