The Kraken is a small submarine for exploring the sea floor around San Andreas. Rockstar describes unlocking it by cataloging animal species across the map as Franklin.
Rockstar announced it in 2014 as one of the rewards for players who moved to the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions from PS3 or Xbox 360. Rockstar Support says returning players needed to have finished the Prologue on PS3 or Xbox 360 while connected to the network.
How to unlock it in Story Mode
- As Franklin, complete the first Paparazzi Strangers and Freaks mission, which starts in West Vinewood.
- Beverly then signs you up for a photography competition, and an email arrives from Los Santos Tourist Info with a list of 20 animals.
- Take a clear photo of each animal with your phone and email it to Los Santos Tourist Info.
- Send all 20 and the Kraken is your prize.
GamesRadar’s guide maps where to find each animal, from domestic pets to genuinely wild creatures. Some of them are dangerous, so approach with care.
What to use it for
Its main job is underwater exploration. GamesRadar suggests it as an alternative to the dock submarine when hunting the 30 nuclear waste barrels. See the Submersible page for that side job.
Spawn cheat
After unlocking it, PC Gamer lists BUBBLES on PC or 1-999-282-2537 on the phone. PC Gamer notes you can spawn it on land.
Related vehicles
Other returning player rewards are the Dodo and Duke O’Death.
