Umberto Robina is the head of the Cuban gang in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. GamesRadar sums him up as the leader of the Cubans with a deep hatred of the rival Haitian gang.
Who he is
Umberto is all swagger. GameSpot’s review notes that he never stops telling you how much of a man he is, and that most of his gang are much the same. The game’s manual recommends a visit to Café Robina in Little Havana, the neighborhood at the heart of Cuban life in the city.
Role in the story
Tommy is drawn into Umberto’s world after Avery Carrington’s mission Two Bit Hit. IGN’s guide explains that this puts Tommy in the middle of the feud between the Cubans and the Haitians over the city’s drug trade. GameSpot adds that the Cubans adopt Tommy like a brother and bring him into their war.
His missions are:
- Stunt Boat Challenge, a timed boat run to win the gang’s respect.
- Cannon Fodder, backing up the Cubans in a street fight in Little Haiti.
- Naval Engagement, attacking Haitian boats and grabbing two briefcases.
- Trojan Voodoo, driving a Voodoo into a Haitian drug factory to plant bombs.
IGN notes that you can only finish Umberto’s story after seeing the Auntie Poulet missions through, because Tommy ends up working both sides.
Voice actor
Umberto is voiced by Danny Trejo, credited in the game’s manual. GamesRadar reported that he appears on the box art for the prequel Vice City Stories, and GameSpot’s review of that game confirms Trejo returned to the role.
