CJ can date six women in San Andreas. Two are met through missions and four are found while exploring. Dating is optional, but the rewards are good: most girlfriends give a perk, all of them hand over a car, and most give an outfit. This guide combines IGN’s romance guide with GamesRadar’s girlfriend guide.
How dating works
- Unlock: dating opens after the mission Burning Desire, where CJ meets Denise.
- Finding them: IGN says a woman you can date has a blue arrow above her head. Walk up to her. If she is not interested, a prompt tells you what she wants CJ to change.
- Sex appeal: IGN notes that high sex appeal overrides the appearance preferences. It rises with muscle, clothes, haircuts, tattoos and cars.
- Dates: her home shows as a heart on the map. Drive into the marker there and she picks one of three dates: dinner, dancing or a drive. Some girlfriends also have a special date of their own.
- Relationship meter: IGN says a good date adds 5%, a good date that ends with an invite inside adds 10%, and a bad date takes 5% off. Gifts and a kiss add a little more. If you ignore her calls for too long, the meter drops.
- Rewards: the perk usually starts as soon as you begin dating. At 50% she gives you the keys to her car, and at 100% most give a themed outfit.
Save before a date. IGN warns that a girlfriend who dies stays dead.

Denise
The first girlfriend. Denise lives in Ganton, and GamesRadar lists her as available from 16:00 to 06:00. She is not picky, which makes her a good tutorial. Keep driving dates around Ganton and Idlewood. Her special date is a drive by, where she shoots rival gang members from the car. GamesRadar warns not to fire out of her side of the car. Rewards: the Hustler at 50% and the pimp suit at 100%.
Millie
CJ meets Millie in the mission Key to Her Heart, and she lives in Prickle Pine, Las Venturas. IGN says her relationship must reach 35% to get the keycard the story needs. She likes restaurants and an average speed. Wearing the outfit from that mission on a date gets you invited inside straight away, a quick 10%. She gives no perk and no extra outfit, but her pink Club is yours at 50%.
Helena
Helena is first seen shooting at the Ammu-Nation range in Blueberry, Red County. GamesRadar says she appears after the mission The Green Sabre, and her farm is in Flint County. She wants a slim CJ with high sex appeal, and IGN calls her the hardest girlfriend to max out. She likes restaurants and drives around her farm. Her perk opens the shed by her house, which GamesRadar says holds a chainsaw, a flamethrower, Molotov cocktails and a pistol. Rewards: the Bandito at 50% and rural clothes at 100%.
Katie
Katie does yoga at the Avispa Country Club in San Fierro, near the Cobra Martial Arts Gym. She wants a muscular CJ, loves diners and hates fast driving. IGN calls her perk arguably the best in the game: CJ keeps his weapons when wasted. IGN says hospital fees are discounted, while GamesRadar says treatment becomes free. Rewards: the Romero at 50% and the medic uniform at 100%.
Michelle
Michelle is at the Driving School in Doherty, and her garage is in Downtown San Fierro. She likes an overweight CJ, bars and fast driving around Doherty and Garcia. Her special date lets her take the wheel. GamesRadar says the only way to fail it is to leave the car. Her perk is a free respray at her garage, which works like a Pay ‘n’ Spray. Rewards: the Monster at 50% and the racing suit at 100%.
Barbara
Barbara is a police officer outside the El Quebrados station in Tierra Robada. She likes an overweight CJ, diners and average speed drives around El Quebrados. Her perk means CJ keeps his weapons and loses less money when busted. Rewards: her police Ranger at 50% and the police uniform at 100%.
Tips
- Get Katie and Barbara early. IGN’s tips page recommends dating both as soon as you can, so you stop losing weapons when wasted or busted.
- Collect the oysters. IGN says all 50 let CJ date any girlfriend regardless of sex appeal, even one who dumped him. See our collectibles guide.
