The Maverick is a helicopter in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. IGN’s vehicle list and its 2002 review both name three versions: the regular Maverick, the Police Maverick and the VCN Maverick. IGN’s secrets page also mentions a news helicopter parked on the roof of the VCN building in the north of the city.
Flying it
GameSpot’s guide explains the basics that apply to every helicopter in the game. You rise and descend with the face buttons, tilt with the left stick and turn the body with the shoulder buttons or the right stick. GameSpot adds that helicopters usually sit on top of certain buildings, and that you can’t steal one in midair, so you have to find one on the ground. You can lean out and fire a submachine gun from a helicopter without mounted guns, though GameSpot says it isn’t very effective.
Loose Ends
The Maverick’s starring role is in Loose Ends, the last of the assassination jobs, which unlocks after The Shootist. A meeting on the roof of the Cherry Popper Ice Cream factory in Little Havana has to be wiped out.
- IGN recommends a sniper rifle for the guards outside, then a faster firing weapon once you are inside.
- Work your way up to the roof and kill everyone at the meeting.
- Grab the goods and get in the Maverick parked nearby.
- Fly it to the helipad at Escobar International for a $16,000 reward.
GameSpot also points out a hidden package on the helipad where you land, if you haven’t picked it up yet.
