The Sparrow is a helicopter in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. IGN calls it highly maneuverable, with the most intuitive flying controls of any aircraft in the game. The Sea Sparrow, a hidden package reward, is a version that can land on water and carries a machine gun.
Where to find it
IGN says helicopters are stashed on rooftops around the city, and the Sparrows among them trigger the Chopper Checkpoint races:
- Ocean Beach: on a rooftop reached by the same route as the last jump of PCJ Playground. GameSpot describes it as a pink rooftop south of Washington Mall.
- Vice Point: in a hedged backyard west of Mercedes’ house. You may stumble on it early.
- Downtown: up the steps of an office building, appearing after G-Spotlight.
- Little Haiti: on the roof of the building left of the Life’s A Beach sign. IGN notes this one sometimes fails to spawn. If so, land another Sparrow on the same spot and get back in.
Chopper Checkpoint
Each race is a timed run through checkpoints, many of them close to the ground, and you only need to beat your own best time. The first win at each pays $100, and all four count toward 100% completion. IGN’s advice is to avoid damage: fly high, then drop down onto low checkpoints, and watch out for power lines, light poles and palm trees.
Martha’s Mug Shot
In Martha’s Mug Shot for InterGlobal Films, IGN says you take a Sparrow parked near the studio and follow Candy Suxxx’s limo from the air without losing it. Land on the hotel roof across from the penthouse, take your photos, then fight your way back to the Sparrow and fly home.
